The Story
Behind the House

A contemporary African luxury fashion and textile design house founded on a single conviction: that African design is not something to be referenced from a distance, but something to be developed from within. Through cultural memory, material exploration, craftsmanship, and textile innovation, Pelumi Ofere translates heritage into contemporary design language.

Our Story

A house
built on
heritage.

Atelier · Lagos
"Pelumi Ofere was founded on a single conviction: that African cultural knowledge contains powerful design systems capable of shaping contemporary fashion, textiles, and material culture."

We work slowly because meaningful design takes time. Every collection becomes a conversation between cultural memory and contemporary expression—between inherited knowledge and new possibilities for form, material, and identity.

Our practice draws from African cultural memory, craft traditions, architecture, and material culture. Each collection may explore a different design language, translating heritage into contemporary form through structure, silhouette, textile development, and craftsmanship.

This is not a brand.
This is a house.

We build each piece as if it is the only piece — because for the woman who wears it, it is. Made to order. Made by hand. Made in Lagos.

What We Stand For

The convictions
that shape everything.

01

Slow Luxury

We do not rush. Every garment is made to order — conceived, constructed, and finished only after it is commissioned. Speed is not our language. Quality is.

02

Heritage as Craft

Yoruba aesthetic tradition is not a reference point — it is our foundation. Cowrie shells, earth tones, and the sacredness of the female form are built into every silhouette we create.

03

The Woman, First

We design for a specific woman — evolving, grounded, quietly powerful. Her body, her story, and her occasion are the starting point. The garment comes after.

04

Intentional Materials

We source natural fabrics — linen, chiffon, silk blends — chosen for how they move, how they age, and how they honour the body that wears them.

05

Made in Lagos

Our atelier is in Lagos, and we intend to keep it there. Nigerian craft, Nigerian hands, Nigerian women — this is not coincidence. It is conviction.

06

Quiet Power

We are not interested in fashion that announces itself. We are interested in fashion that, once worn, cannot be forgotten. There is a difference — and it lives in the details.

The Founder

A vision rooted
in identity.

Pelumi Ofere is the creative mind behind the house that bears her name. Her work began with a fascination for garment construction, but evolved into a deeper exploration of fabric manipulation, textile development, and the ways cultural memory can be translated into contemporary design. At the heart of the house is a question that continues to guide her practice: how can African cultural heritage be integrated into garments rather than applied onto them.Through Pelumi Ofere, she hopes to contribute to the development of a contemporary African design language that is rooted, relevant, and forward-looking.

Work With Us
Yoruba Heritage

Rooted in culture.
Fluent in now.

We believe African heritage contains sophisticated design systems capable of shaping the future of contemporary design. Our role is to study, reinterpret, and translate these traditions into garments, textiles, and forms that are relevant, refined, and forward-looking.

Cultural Memory

African heritage is our point of departure, not our destination. We study cultural memory to understand how tradition can shape contemporary design rather than simply decorate it.

Material Innovation

Every collection begins with exploration. Through fabric manipulation, textile development, and material experimentation, we create surfaces and structures that tell stories beyond ornament.

Structure & Silhouette

Our garments are designed with intention. Inspired by African architecture, movement, and form, each silhouette balances softness with strength.

Craftsmanship

Every piece is made slowly and precisely in Lagos. We believe exceptional craftsmanship transforms clothing into objects of lasting cultural and personal value.

"We make things slowly because slow things last. Every collection is a conversation between the past and the present — between the woman who came before you and the woman you are becoming."
— Pelumi Ofere, Founder
The Atelier

Made by
hand. Always.

Every Pelumi Ofere garment is constructed in our Lagos atelier by skilled craftswomen. No factory lines. No mass production. Each piece begins with a conversation and ends with something singular.
